The Mysterious Aspect Of Gold Lockets

The following article focuses on oval lockets. Still, the reader should not assume that all lockets have an oval shape. There are many different types of gold lockets. There are some lockets that look like a small book. There are other lockets that look like a beautiful Easter egg. There are round lockets and heart-shaped lockets. Most lockets are designed to hold two tiny pictures. Still, there is one type of locket that can actually hold three small pictures. Now that so many photos can be put on such little computer chips, the lockets of the future could well hold dozens of pictures.

A writer of mysteries might benefit from an examination of the many gold lockets for sale on the Internet. The diversity among those lockets is striking, but it is not mysterious. Still, one type of locket does seem to be the sort of thing that could foil an attempt to locate a criminal.

Among the many gold lockets pictured on the Internet, one can find a number of oval lockets. Most of those lockets have one narrow end of the oval attached to a chain, and the other narrow end pointing toward the ground. Yet not every locket on a chain hangs from the chain in that manner.

A few of the ovals hang from the chain in a manner that puts their narrow ends to the right and left of any chain that carries that oval locket. In this case, the locket does not hang directly from the chain. It hangs from a metal bar, a bar that hangs from the locket chain. It is the presence of that bar that allows the oval locket to take-on an air of mystery.

The bar attached to the locket chain has been shaped so as to form a semi-circle. The narrow ends of the oval have been attached to the curved bar. That attachment has been made in a way that permits movement of the oval inside the area of the semi-circle. Thus the wearer of the locket can easily display either side of the locket.

Now it so happens that these so-called swing lockets usually have two very different sides One side is quite plain, and the other side has either gemstones or detailed engraving or both. That fact gives the wearer of the locket a ready means of disguise.

If authorities were to search for a criminal wearing an engraved, oval locket, and if that locket were a swing locket, then the criminal could easily hide the engraved side of the locket. That simple deception would make it more difficult for any detective to spot the elusive, wanted suspect.

Of course, a criminal who relied on his or her ability to “flip” a locket from one side to the next would want to choose a locket without a distinctive color. A rose colored oval locket should not be a criminal’s first choice. There are not many lockets that have been fashioned from rose gold. Most of the lockets are made of white gold or yellow gold.

The online merchants with lockets do display some reversible lockets. Still, that reversibility only gives the wearer the opportunity to hang the locket with either face showing. Reversibility does not guarantee a quick and speedy change from one locket face to the nest.

Only a swing locket would seem to contribute to the mystery in a good detective story.
